Taking the Trauma Out of Traumatic Nail Care

Nail Shortening

Nail Care for Pets is Essential

Routine Nail Care is a critical part of grooming and preventative healthcare for your dog's well-being. Leaving your dog's nails to over-grow for periods of time, not only causes pain and discomfort but can also lead to arthritic illness, joint and spinal strain, and/or combined with a preventable injury.

Highly Under-Rated

Our mission is to always ensure dogs and their people have a trauma-less nail care experience. We also hope to educate the importance and value of routine nail care. You give your dog the best food, you take them to the best vet, and when they are dirty you bathe them, but more times than not, routine nail care ends up at the bottom of the to-do list.

Treats and Praise

Having your dog's nails shortened should not and does not have to be a stressful and traumatizing experience. In most cases, it is best to reward your dog with their favorite treats and consistent praise during the process. Nail care is not punishment and shouldn't be treated as anything but a rewarding experience. A great way to help your dog to be comfortable during nail care is to ensure they can perform commands like sit, stay, lay down, and give paw through positive reinforcement. Playing with their paws and making sure they are used to having them touched sincerely helps. Freezing treats like peanut butter smeared on a lick-pad or Tupperware container to give during paw handling and nail care, makes a great distraction for the right dog.

We understand, life happens and that's why we help you commit and remember that your dog's nails need some love. F A Q

How often should I shorten my dogs nails?

There is no black and white answer to this. Determining how often your dog’s nails need to be shortened and how to know they need some TLC depends on a number of factors.

Do their nails grind down a significant amount during activities like walking on concrete? If not, your dog may need nail shortening more often than not. Do their nails grow at a fast or slow pace? If they grow fast, it is probably in your dog’s best interest that you schedule a monthly routine to shorten their nails.

How do I know if my dogs nails are too long?

Can you always hear your dog’s nails tapping on the floor? Nail tapping is a clear indication that your dog’s nails are too long and need maintenance. If you find this happening more often than not, it is probably best to get your dog on a monthly nail shortening routine. Are their nails so long that the position of their paws become flat or where their toes turn sideways? Are their nails curling or touching the pad of their paw?

Leaving your dog’s nails to over-grow for periods of time, not only causes pain and discomfort but can also lead to arthritic illness, joint and spinal strain, and/or combined with a preventable injury.
If their nails appear to be too long, they probably are. Our standard recommendation is to shorten their nails every 3 to 6 weeks minimum.

Do I need to be present for the in-home nail care?

We schedule your dogs in-home nail care for a time when you can comfort and hold your dog still. So yes, you not only need to be home during the appointment but you will need to be distraction free and have your attention on your dogs for the duration of the service.

Blood during nail care, yes or no?

No! Accidents happen of course but a top-priority in professional nail care should always be that there is no blood and that it is pain-free.

Is my dog a candidate for in-home nail care?

There are several factors to consider in regards to whether or not a dog will be a good candidate for in-home nail care. In order to protect everyone involved, we don’t recommend this service for dogs with aggressive behaviors or who have a bite history. Also, dogs who are very anxious with their guardians around do best in a setting where the guardian is not present during the service like in a grooming shop or at the veterinarians office.

What is the visit booking policy?

We can not guarantee same-day requests, especially. You can request an appointment in our client portal. If you are a member, we will send Sunday reminders to please get your schedule in by noon. For nail care members, we schedule reoccurring appointments a month out from the first appointment.

*48 Hour Notice is Strictly Enforced*

Once your appointment is booked we respect and value our commitment. We will not overbook and will not give that time slot away to another family.

We understand life happens but cancelling last minute or failing to cancel in due time costs us lost time and revenue. Cancelling in less than 48 hours will result in us immediately billing you for 50% of the cost of your booked appointment.

We appreciate and thank you for your understanding.
